  • lala for Music

lala_logoWow! It’s been a while and I apologize. I’ve been keeping busy with Cognition Media (which is finally getting off the ground), but am back on track here. Today starts the first in a series of posts I’ll be writing to help with tech oriented gifts for the 2009 holiday season. Up first is a service I’ve been using for a while now (7-8 months) and am very happy with: lala.

  • Safe Social Media: Your Blog

For the final installment of the Safe Social Media Series, I’m going to talk about our blogs. As you can tell, my blog is an amalgamation of everything I post/share on the Internet. My shared links and Twitter feed are to the right and I link to my more popular social networks, on top of writing articles on tech, politics, and whatever else catches my interest. You’re blog gives you the most control over your online presence, but it’s also the most insightful into who you are. For that reason, it takes the most upkeep.

  • Safe Social Media: Facebook

Facebook LogoTo continue the Safe Social Media Series, today I’ll be talking about Facebook. Facebook’s ever changing platform caters to millions of people worldwide, is the 3rd most used site (behind Google and Yahoo!), is the number one social networking site in users and traffic, and is the number one place to share photos. Facebook connects people. Therefore, where Twitter is more about using your own discretion in keeping a good reputation, Facebook takes a bit more work.

Inspired by this article on CNN, I’ll be doing a four part series about security and social media. The topics will all revolve around the dos and donts of your social media profiles- specifically for students and employees. I’ll be covering proper management of Twitter, Facebook, and your own blog. I’ll wrap up with some miscellaneous sites and practices.

  • Useful Sites for Mobile Web

mobile-webI remember a time where PDAs and smart phones were a sign of status- you were either a business man or a tech geek. Now smartphones and internet enabled phones are as ubiquitous as the air we breath (you like that?). As someone who spends a lot of time on the mobile web (or the web in general), I thought I’d provide a list of some mobile sites that I find useful.

  • QT: Manage Your Blackberry Email Online

This is for all of use Blackberry (possibly only on Verizon Wireless) users. The Blackberry Web Panel allows you to manage (add/edit/delete and filter) all of the email addresses going to your blackberry device. You can also change PINs if you ever switch devices. I use it to skip sending emails I send to my device, as well as a few filters to make sure I don’t get repeat emails. I strongly recommend taking a look at it if  you have several email addresses forwarding to your Blackberry.

  • Best That’s What She Said

A few weeks ago my friend Mary came to me with an idea for a new website; one in the same breadth as FML and Texts from Last Night, but for “That’s What She Said” jokes. A couple weeks and some quick coding later and I we give you Best That’s What She Said!, a place where you can share your favorite “That’s What She Said” moments with the world. Aside from the utterly hilarious innuendo that will undoubtedly come from the site, it was a nice practice in JQuery coding for me.

Most of the home page uses JQuery to post and call the newest moments, and the voting also makes use of JQuery. I actually found it easy to use and modify. Since it’s really flashy Javascript, I’m glad it follows the tradition of Javascript in being able to Google most of what you need. That’s not to say it’s all written for you, but there is a nice base for you to start with. I’ll be sure to integrate more JQuery into future sites.

Anyway, check out the site- any feedback is much appreciated! I can’t believe I went all the way* without making a that’s what she said joke!

  • Burke Website Launched

    Cross posted at Manifest Development

screenAfter several months of design and development, I am proud to announce the launch of Burke Catholic High School’s new website. Burke first came to me back in November seeking a new, more interactive, easier to update website geared towards current students, parents, and prospective families. In development, I created the first iteration of Minerva CMS, a content management system powered by WordPress and geared towards high schools.
