Safe Social Media Series

Inspired by this article on CNN, I’ll be doing a four part series about security and social media. The topics will all revolve around the dos and donts of your social media profiles- specifically for students and employees. I’ll be covering proper management of Twitter, Facebook, and your own blog. I’ll wrap up with some miscellaneous sites and practices.

You’ll see a few recurring themes throughout all of the posts, which I’ll point out now:

  • Think before you post. If you don’t want someone reading or seeing it, then don’t post it. It will make it’s way around if you do.
  • Keep private stuff private. Each of the mediums I mentioned above have a way to protect updates. If your posts/pictures aren’t for public consumption, use them.
  • Be mindful of the company you keep. Make sure people aren’t posting derogatory text or images that are somehow related to you. This takes some management and monitoring, but it pays off.

Coming up first: Twitter. Stay tuned!

  • The Block Editor isn’t as bad as you think it is.

We’ll unpack that in this week’s main segment. Plus: Happy Trails to Andrea Middleton, who’s leaving Automattic this month, Automattic aquires Frontify, and the Classic Editor gets another year of support.

Don’t get me wrong. I love Kickstarter. I spend too much money there. I almost buy something everyday and have 2 projects I’m patiently awaiting the arrival of. After 2021 ended with a call from Matt Mullenweg to contribute more to open source (specifically WordPress), 2022 began with a less rosy picture of the open source space. Some of the biggest names in tech met at the White House to discuss how to identify critical open source projects. surreptitiously missing from this meeting was representation for WordPress. But that’s because we need to answer an important question: Who?

How to Point a Custom Domain to ConvertKit

My favorite Email Service Provider for creators is ConvertKit. It’s flexible and has a ton of features for sorting, tagging, and even selling products. In fact, if I need to spin up something quickly to sell a digital product, chances are I’m using ConverKit. A big contributing factor to that is the ability to point to…
