Links Round Up for 03/6/11
- Android will Allow Screenshots without Painful Setup (lifehacker): Finally.
- How to Back Up Your Gmail the Easy and Cheap Way (lifehacker): After what happened a couple of weeks ago, I will definitely be doing this.
- RIM Preparing to Bring BBM to iOS and Android (engadget): This might be the only reason people still use Blackberrys. That being said, I’d probably pay a couple of bucks for this app.
- The New iPad (gizmodo): The iPad 2 was announced this week and I briefly took a look. I think I’d still go with a Motorola XOOM if I were to upgrade from the iPad.
- To Root or not to Root (android.appstorm): I’ve been considering this for a while, and I will probably root in the near future.
- How to Root an Android Device (android.appstorm): …and I’ll probably use this guide.
- Charlie Sheen’s Twitter: Charlie Sheen is obviously insane. Insane celebrities say funny things and Twitter let’s you post what you want to say. This will be awesome.

- Worst Idea: Filming a Speeding Train Running Over You (gizmodo): It’s watching things like this that make me wonder about Darwinism.
- Print from Your Phone with GMail Mobile & Google Cloud Print (google): This is awesome. I can’t wait for Mac support (right now, only Windows is supported)
- WLKY Chyron Says Steelers beat ‘Jew York Jets’: Someone got fired.
- Bouncing Bundle of Kidnappable Joy: I have liked everything I’ve read by this woman. Pointing out ridiculousness of the media- check. Stating we live in a fearful society- check.
- It’s Always Personal (waiter rant): I love his stories. His site used to be about the trials and tribulations of waiting, but now it’s his experiences. Either way, they are very well written.
- Everything You Need to Know about the Verizon iPhone and Making the Switch (lifehacker): Great, comprehensive, and very informative.
- Would-Be Suicide Bomber Killed by Unexpected SMS from Mobile Carrier (wired): If true, the SMS might be the only time that a wireless carrierâ€™s SMS message has ever been useful.
- How Egypt Turned Off the Internet (gizmodo): I was just speaking with my friend about how I appreciate that this would be nearly impossible to do in America.
- Android.Appstorm.Net (envato): The envato network just launched their latest site, dedicated to all things Android. Definitely check this out if you own an Android phone!
- Designing for the New Fold (webdesigntuts+): I’ve been saying the fold is irrelevant on the web for a while now. Read this!

Links Round Up for 11/14/10
- Olbermann & the Dangers of Partisan Media: The media is supposed to be the government watchdog for the people, and they by and large are failing us. And as illustrated (in exuberance) by Rachel Maddow’s quote. If she really thinks that Fox has a bias, but MSNBC does not, she shouldn’t have a job or consider herself a journalist.
- Damn You Auto Correct!: Here’s the, “Site that will take up all of my time” of the week.
- What’s Kik Messenger All About?: Â Kik is a new IM service for Android, iPhone, & Blackberry that relise on data (Internet) instead of txt messaging. It’s supposed to be like a cross platform BBM. BGR gives us a rundown of it.
- If You Begin a Sentence with Well, there’s a Good Chance You’re Lying: Well, I’ll certainly be more mindful of this.
- Facebook’s GMail Killer, Project Titan, Coming Monday: Pretty interesting. I do think that Facebook email would cater to a different crowd than gmail though.
- New Tech lets You Pee on Your Phone to Check for an STD: Just try to avoid the sticker that indicated water damage.
- [Why] Netflix [is not] on Android: The good news is rumors indicate we’ll see it on some newer Android phones in 2011
- Feds say Firing for Facebook Posts is Illegal: There is a debate on whether or not what you post on Facebook could be considered protected speech. I would argue it is. If you say something in a public area for others to hear, it’s still protected. Why should Facebook be any different?

My Thoughts on Sparrow
Sparrow is a Mac only desktop email client specifically for GMail. They way they describe it on their website Â is this way:
Sparrow is a minimalist mail application for Mac. It was designed to keep things simple and efficient. No fancy stuff here… just your mail and nothing else.
I decided to take it for a spin; I’m not a huge fan of Apple Mail (or most desktop clients), but Sparrow seemed different since it’s specifically for GMail.

Droid Does
Those of you who know me might be surprised that I got a Droid less than one year after I got the Blackberry Storm. Those of you who really know me aren’t surprised one bit. As soon as I saw an Android phone come to Verizon, I was interested. I’m highly dependent on Google (Gmail, Contacts, Calendar, etc. etc.), I missed a physical keyboard, and I did my thesis on Android, which means I can program on the platform. I’ve had it for about 3 weeks now- here are my thoughts.

Using Google Voice for Business
As a freelancer, I don’t have an office, or employees, or all the extra stuff that one might have as a business. I work from home, with my laptop, my cell phone, and if I need to offload some work, I have a group of subcontractors I can call. This of course makes it harder to separate personal and professional life, especially if I’m giving people my cell phone number as a means of contact. That has changed with Google Voice.

This seems like a silly title, since GMail is an email client and all. However, wouldn’t it be nice if you could have all of the conversations you’ve with with the same person in one place, at the click of a button? As it turns out GMail’s search and a labs function called Quick Links makes that very easy to do.
