Use iGoogle’s GMail Gadget when GMail is Down

Note: This article was published while I was in my early 20s. I was much younger and dumber. Please don't hold it against me. One of the perils of having a 20+ year old website!

Gmail is down! Oh No! How will we go on?! So I’m being a bit over-dramatic, but many of us depend heavily on GMail for our day-to-day duties. That’s why today’s quick tip will tell you how to use it when it’s down (swanky!)

Disclaimer: I only know that this works for me. I am able to send, receive, and archive from GMail using iGoogle GMail gadget.

  1. Login to Google and go to www.google.com
  2. If you’re not there already, click “iGoogle” in the top right corner, next to your email address.
  3. Now on the right hand side in the iGoogle banner, click “Add Stuff”
  4. Search “GMail” in the Search for gadgets box.
  5. Add the first one

That’s it!  You should now be able to use GMail’s core functionality while it’s down.
