  • WordPress 5.0 Has Been Delayed – What Now?

If you haven’t been following the dev chats in the WordPress Slack team, there’s a lot of confusion around exactly when WordPress 5.0 will ship. Release Candidate (RC) 1 is out now, and RC2, as I write this, is around the corner. These should signal that the answer is “soon” but there has been no commitment. The team is ignoring the fallback dates in January, and it seems “as soon as possible” is the current target. Many have already written thoughts on what that means for the community. I’m here to tell you what your plan should be.

  • WordPress Cyber Weekend Deals 2018

Well it’s that time of year, where there are lots of deals that I’d rather buy for myself than for others. I think nothing better encapsulates that than the digital deals going on in the WordPress /online worker space. I mean don’t get me wrong, I’d love to get a great deal on hosting. But I’d be disappointed if someone got me hosting for Christmas. That said, it’s the best time of year to save yourself some money while making those last minute end of the year business purchases. Here are my favorite (mostly) WordPress Cyber Weekend Deals.

  • My Tech Travel Grid

One of the best speaker gifts I got from was from WordCamp Grand Rapids. It’s this nifty zip up pouch for wires and small chargers. It’s super useful, compact, and great for organizing all the things I bring with me when I travel. In this post, I’m going to outline everything I carry with me. Let’s get started!

  • 6 WordPress Plugins for Your Podcast Website

WordPress is certainly the most popular CMS in the world, powering over 30% of the web. It also powers all sorts of websites, from blogs to giant e-commerce stores and everything in between. This includes podcast websites. However, recently I attended Podcast Movement, a fantastic podcasting conference, and discovered that many podcasters struggle with creating their own website. While there are countless tools that will automate the process for you, you’re at the mercy of a platform you don’t own. Still, finding the right tools can be hard. That’s why in this article, I’m going to tell you about 6 killer plugins for your podcast website on WordPress.

  • I Have a New Podcast: Creator Toolkit

I’ve been mulling this idea in my head for about a month now. See, in the last 2 years running How I Built It, a podcast that has gained some shocking popularity, I’ve realized something. Podcasting is the most fun part of my day. I love interviewing people and publishing to such a great medium. I’m good at talking and have been since I was a kid. I want to keep podcasting, and I have other ideas. One is Creator Toolkit, a show I think would compliment How I Built It very nicely.

  • Podcasting: How to Get Good Room Acoustics

Since professional recording is now the lion’s share of my work, I wanted to make sure that I was doing everything I could to get good room acoustics. Here, I break down what I did to make sure that my sound it top quality, before it ever hits my mic. If video is your preferred format, I have that too, after the jump!

  • WordPress Plugins I Can’t Live Without

I work with WordPress on a daily basis. By working within my own sites, setting up new sites, and testing new things, I come across a lot of WordPress tools. As a result, I have a group of WordPress plugins that I’ve come to rely on. There are some that are site specific (like WooCommerce and LearnDash on this site), but there are also those plugins I install on every single WordPress site I set up. Here’s a list of those WordPress plugins in no particular order.

  • Switching to Windows with my new PC

Earlier this year I decided that I needed more power in my production machine. The 2017 fully loaded Macbook Pro, much to my dismay, was not cutting it and I wasn’t even doing 4K videos. When faced with the option of dropping $5000+ on a new iMac Pro (which I could not afford to do), or spend half of that on a PC, the decision was pretty easy…I was switching to Windows. Here are my thoughts on the transition so far.

  • Trying Out My New Canon Rebel T6i

This week I got a new Canon Rebel T6i. I’ve been in the Nikon camp for a long time and I’ve enjoyed the cameras I’ve used, but I’m at a point where I’d like to get more mileage out of my DSLR, not only as a camera, but as a webcam for when I do live streams/video calls. It’s much much easier (read: possible) to do that on the T6i, and not possible on the D3300, which is what I have. This weekend I got to take the camera out for a spin when the family went to Longwood Garden. Here’s some of my better shots (Flickr album here)
