7 Cigars to Smoke with Your Dad on Father’s Day (plus some accessories!)

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a cigars post (4 years, it looks like!) and this time around, I’m celebrating my first Father’s Day. Now, every dad is different, and everyone has their personal preferences, so I’m going to give you my top 3, and then 4 good cigars of different varieties. To make this a well-rounded list, I’ll end with a few nice accessories too.

1. Ashton ESG 24-Year

Ashton ESG 24 Year Salute

Price: $21.00 (single) – $473 (Box of 25)

This cigar may very well be my all time favorite. I smoked it at a Bachelor Party in Vegas, by a pool, and it lasted 2 full hours. It burned perfectly, tasted great, and never once got too hot or soft. It also had an incredible draw.

2. Liga Privada No. 9

Liga Privada by Drew Estate

Price: $14.00 (single) – $300 (Box of 24)

This is a cigar I smoke as regularly as I can. It’s a nice full, rich flavored cigar that will not leave you disappointed.A complexly blended, beautifully crafted, smooth and silky smoke. It’s a full bodied cigar that doesn’t have the harshness of a full bodied cigar.

3. Viaje Birthday Blend

Price: $8 (single) – $325 (Box of 38)

So it’s not a birthday, persay, but it’s a celebration nonetheless! I bought a few of these cigars and aged them for the birth of my daughter and it’s my favorite new discovery. It’s got a lot of rich favors in this excellent smoke. Half Wheel has the full review here.

So those are my top 3 at the moment. The next 4 are cigars I really like, with a bit more variety.

4. Leaf by Oscar

Price: $9 (single) – $164 (Bundle of 20)

This is a lighter smoke than the ones I’ve mentioned so far, but that doesn’t mean it’s without great flavor. It comes wrapped in a protective outer leaf which starts as a nice conversation piece, then as you smoke the cigar you’ll get some nutty, mocha favors. Really great with coffee!

5. Whiskey Rebellion

Whiskey Rebellion Cigars

Price: $8 (Single) – $170 (Box of 24)

This is another one I discovered this year and I love everything about it! The name pays homage to the 1794 protest of taxes; the flavor profile is one of coffee and red pepper at times, and it burns so good. Slow and with low heat.

6. Undercrown Shade

Price: $9 (single) – $180 (Box of 25)

This is one of my favorite mild-medium cigars; made by Drew Estate, who also makes the Liga Privada line, this is a nice light smoke – something you and your dad can take with you on the golf course!

7. Headley Grange by Crowned Heads

Headley Grange Cigars

Price: $10.50 (single) – $95 (Box of 10)

Let me tell you – I love everything Crowned Heads puts out, and Headley Grange was my first encounter with the brand. This is a nice, medium smoke that’s good all the way through with some good flavors. It has a little something for everyone.

Accessories

We won’t go into depth here. I’ll just mention a few of my favorites:

As an added bonus, Famous Smoke Shop is running a free shipping deal on orders $75 or more.

It’s no secret that I enjoy a cigar from time to time. To stay on top of trends and information, I will also read the Subreddit /r/cigars. Yesterday they had a fantastic thread about cigar pairings and I thought this would be a good opportunity to give my two cents here on my own blog*.

  1. Love all those Drew Estates cigars. And you never go wrong with a kick-ass ashtray from Wicked Anvil! Plus, they’re great conversation pieces!
