  • It’s Official! WordCamp Scranton is July 18th!

I wrote this on the WordCamp Scranton blog originally. I am so excited to be organizing this event. The team and I are bound to make sure it’s a great event!

After a few months of initial planning and venue hunting, we are happy announce that WordCamp is coming to Scranton, PA on July 18th! It will be held at Johnson College and we could not be more excited!

    What is WordCamp?

WordCamp is a conference that focuses on everything WordPress.

WordCamps are informal, community-organized events that are put together by WordPress users like you. Everyone from casual users to core developers participate, share ideas, and get to know each other. (src).

We will have WordPress-focused talks, sponsors, networking events, swag, and an after party! It’s going to be a great weekend!

    We Need You!

Right now, we are getting all of our ducks in a row regarding this website and the important details, and we need your help! We are currently looking for people to fill three very important roles:

    • Sponsors: Sponsors will donate money or in-kind services to the event. We are working on a Sponsor slide deck now to get you the important details regarding audience and reach. Please get in touch if you’re interested! As an added bonus, WordCamps are run by the WordPress Foundation, a non-profit organization 🙂
    • Speakers: Interested in sharing what you know? We are looking for talks that range from beginner (how to set up a WordPress site) to advanced (You, Me, and the WordPress API make Three). If you’re interested, apply here.
    • Volunteers: Not sure about speaking or sponsoring, but still want to help out? No problem! We need volunteers to help get the word out as well as help run the event the day of. Sign up here!

If any of these interest you, get in touch. We will have official calls for all of these in the coming days but hey, the sooner the better, right?

    Thank You!

Thanks for reading! We are really excited to bring Scranton its first WordCamp. We hope you can make it to the event. Registration will be opening soon, but in the mean time, you can check the website or follow @WCScranton on Twitter.

  • 40 Days of Help

I went to Catholic school my entire life, from Pre-K all the way up to when I got my Master’s Degree. While I haven’t always been the best at practicing my religion, something I have always done was adhere to the activities surrounding Lent: no meat on Fridays, and to ‘give something up’. The real reasoning behind giving something up is to have you do something that will ultimately make you a better person, hopefully in some long-lasting fashion. That’s why this year I wanted to do something different, and why I created a new website: 40 Days of Help.

  • Rebooting the TIL Podcast

About a year ago, I started a podcast called the TIL Podcast, where a few friends and I sat down and discussed whatever topic we decided on. It was a lot of fun recording but eventually got a bit hard to keep a consistent group of people to record every week. We got out 13 episodes before taking a hiatus. I’m happy to say that I’m going to reboot the show.

  • I’m Working at Crowd Favorite

…or, “I really can’t wait to work for Chris Lema.”*

Today, I’m very excited to announce that starting in September, I will be a Front End Developer at Crowd Favorite.  I have been following the company since Alex King started it, love the work they do, and could not be happier to join a team that’s working on such great projects (I’ve actually been a big fan of Alex personally for a long time). I just recently accepted the job, but I can actually owe this to winning tickets to last year’s Pressnomics conference.

  • Win a Signed Book or Other Great Prizes!

This week I rolled out a new design for Responsive Design with WordPress’s site. I decided that on top of the site starting to feel a little stale, there wasn’t a whole lot of information about the book aside from a little blurb. I added a bit more that will hopefully give visitors a better idea of what the book is about and what others think about it. Because of this, I want to celebrate by doing the biggest giveaway I’ve done.
