WordCamps, Summits, and Coding, Oh My!

I’m hitting the final stretch of my speaking tour, with just 3 (maybe 4?)  WordPress events left for the summer before taking July off. I’m also giving a  TEDx talk in Scranton in August, but more information to come on that later. I won’t be off the grid though, as I have lots of great stuff planned in the Downtown Scranton area! More details and my speaking schedule after the jump.

First, I want to mention something I’m very excited about because I know it will make me (and hopefully others) focus more on side projects and getting back into some good, old fashioned coding! Starting June 18th and going every Wednesday through August, a friend and I are hosting weekly coding sessions in Downtown Scranton from 6-9pm. We are piggy-backing off of the NEPA Hackathon I wrote about last month and are hoping to cultivate some great projects and network! The location is the new Entrepreneurial Launchpad. You can read more about them and see a full schedule at the NEPA Hackathon website.

I am also holding a couple of WordPress classes  in that same location in July. While the details of those are still forthcoming (keep an eye out next week), one will be an Intro to WordPress for people who use WordPress and one will be a coding course for those who want to develop for WordPress. There might even be a new website in the works for it!

Finally, below are my upcoming speaking events. If you’re in Philly or Chicago, I hope to see you at the WordCamps! If you can’t make it, I’m giving a similar talk at WPSummit, an online conference. Even better, you can get a 10% discount for using the code JOSEPHTEN at checkout!

Creator Courses is now on Nexcess’ Managed WooCommerce Hosting

A couple of weeks ago I made the decision to move Creator Courses off of an early version of Liquid Web’s Managed WordPress hosting and onto their new Managed WooCommerce Hosting by Nexcess. Happy Birthday, WordPress

I know this is about a day late, but I want to wish WordPress a happy birthday. You see, I wouldn’t be where I am today without it. In college I spoke with my friend @smekosh about creating my own CMS as I was writing a few for clients, and he pointed me towards…

Some Thoughts on Virtual Event Fatigue

With the news of WordCamp US cancelling it’s virtual event due to fatigue, and subsequently the WordPress cancelling flagship (major/regional) camps in 2021, I’ve been thinking a lot about what to do about virtual event fatigue. I noticed it with my own webinar series, which I started when the pandemic hit the US. There was…
