What’s on my Bookshelf?

My friend Dan just launched What’s on my Bookshelf.com, an online book trading community. He came to me with the idea a couple of months ago, but due to a pretty busy schedule, I wasn’t able to work on it.

The way it works is you put books on the site and people essentially trade for them. To make it fair, a point system is used. The points are like credit put in your account when someone gets a book from you, which you can then use for other books. Here is the text from the about page:

What is this site about?
WhatsOnMyBookshelf, an online co-op, allows members to exchange their books using a simple point system.

How it works:

  • First, a member registers a book which receives a point value based upon its new book price.
  • Then, a user requests a book by redeeming some of their credits.
  • Finally, the sender ships the book, and once delivered, will receive the requester’s credits.

Members also control the categorization of books. Unlike a library or bookstore, the organization of books depends upon personalized tagging rather than traditional categories or numbering schemes.

Something definitely worth taking a look at! Later!
