Around January of 2014, I wrote about a learning plan I came up with get me up to speed on several tools, including git and Sass. That worked out relatively well for me, seeing as I use both of those every day now. I’ve decided that while I’m not going to break it down by weeks this time around, I still have a plan in place to learn a couple of new things.
A little over a year ago, my second book (and the first one to actually be in book stores) came out. It’s called Responsive Design with WordPressand it’s all about how to leverage WordPress to create responsive themes. It’s been an incredible year and I wanted to talk about two things: what has happened since the book’s release, and what’s coming in the new year.
The last WordCamp I went to was WordCamp Chicago in June, with it rounding out a big tour that started in January to promote my book, Responsive Design with WordPress. While I took a much needed break (and started a new job thanks in part to that trip), I’m really excited to announce that I’ll be speaking on the topic at WordCamp Baltimore.
Thanks to everyone who entered what I’m calling the “Tell All” Giveaway. There were around 200 entries, so I appreciate everyone who shared. Congrats to the winners…
This week I rolled out a new design for Responsive Design with WordPress’s site. I decided that on top of the site starting to feel a little stale, there wasn’t a whole lot of information about the book aside from a little blurb. I added a bit more that will hopefully give visitors a better idea of what the book is about and what others think about it. Because of this, I want to celebrate by doing the biggest giveaway I’ve done.
Last week I talked about the tail end of my speaking tour (thanks to everyone who came out to @WordCampPhilly). Up next is @WordCampChicago, but I’ll also be speaking at the WP Summit 2014, an online conference, on Wednesday, June 18th and I want to give away a free ticket!
In the upcoming weeks, I’ll be wrapping up what has turned into a little speaking tour. This year I’ve already gone to Austin, Lancaster, did @shoptalkshow and held some events locally in Scranton/NEPA. Through June, I’ll be finishing strong, hitting several more WordCamps and I will have my book on sale and signing it!
As you’ve probably read, my book, Responsive Design with WordPress, came out last month and is now available to purchase online and in stores. My publisher has also sent me a few copies to give to family, friends, important people, etc. I’ve decided that I’m going to give a few of those copies away through a couple of contests.
They are both pretty basic and outlined here. The first one is through the website GoodReads. I’m giving away 3 copies and the contest runs until the 31st. All you have to do is enter here, assuming you have a GoodReads account.
The other is your pretty standard social media content. There are 2 copies up for grabs and the contest runs until January 13th. You can enter on Facebook, Twitter, or by signing up for this contest only newsletter. Details for both Facebook and Twitter are on the contest page.
So hurry up! You have 1 week. You can enter all 4 ways to increase your chances, but you can only win one copy of the book. They are print versions and if you win I’ll be in touch to get your mailing address. Shipping in the USA and Canada is on me, but depending on the shipping cost elsewhere, I might ask for some help. If you have any questions, leave a comment here.
I’m happy to announce that my second book, Responsive Design with WordPress is out today online and in bookstores. It’s published through Peachpit/New Riders and I couldn’t be happier with the way it turned out.
An idea I had a while ago, around the time I moved back to Scranton, was to offer a WordPress workshop that would show people how to use the platform and possibly how to develop on it. Recently I was approached by some people who were interested in something similar. Now, how to use and develop are two vastly different topics, so I recently sent out a tiny, 2 question survey to get an idea on what kind of workshop would be more popular. You can find it here. I wanted to elaborate a bit on what I had in mind. (more…)
