Creator Courses is now on Nexcess’ Managed WooCommerce Hosting

A couple of weeks ago I made the decision to move Creator Courses off of an early version of Liquid Web’s Managed WordPress hosting and onto their new Managed WooCommerce Hosting by Nexcess. I was concerned about a number of things, like performance/speed, development environments, and overall feature set. Let me tell you: I am not disappointed.

Quick Note: I’m going to talk about specific Liquid Web and Nexcess products, so I’ll use their names. But Nexcess is part of Liquid Web, and their current offers are all under the Nexcess brand.

Deciding to Move to Nexcess

I’ve been mulling this over for a while…basically since Nexcess rolled out their $19/month Managed WooCommerce Hosting plan. I feel it’s important to be on hosting that’s designed for the tool I’m using, and while Liquid Web’s Managed WordPress Hosting is great for WordPress, my particular plan predates they Managed WooCommerce Hosting by 2-3 years.

I was also really concerned about performance. I was using WP Rocket (which I’m a big fan of), but I was worried this was more of a bandaid than an actual solution for my needs.

Finally, I wanted some eCommerce-specific features. If my shop is going to be an integral part of my business, I need to treat it like one.

Nexcess’ solution solved those problems and more for me. That coupled with a recent sale they did and I was sold. So my next question was, “how do I get this site over to the new hosting without breaking everything?”

Transferring the Current Site to Nexcess

Let me tell you something about Nexcess’ team: they are amazing. When I mentioned I was worried about moving my site over to them, they informed me that they have a transfer process…and it was so. easy.

Basically, you provide them with some credentials so they can take your WooCommerce site and database, and move it to a temporary URL on your plan so you can fully test everything.

Once you’re happy, they will schedule the full move, and do a database freeze if needed so nothing changes between moves. They schedule so that you can point the DNS to the new server when they give the OK. As soon as they do that, you’re issued an SSL certificate and you’re good to go.

I didn’t have to worry about a thing; everything worked flawlessly.
