High School Forfeits 100-0 Win

Note: This article was published while I was in my early 20s. I was much younger and dumber. Please don't hold it against me. One of the perils of having a 20+ year old website!

Here is the story. Apparently a Dallas high school beat another high school 100-0, and then subsequently apologized and forfeited the win. Isn’t playing your best what competitive sports is all about?

    Don’t be Afraid to Relearn

Just the other day I picked up a new book called PHP: The Good Parts. I’ve been programming PHP for over 10 years, and the book covers a lot of beginner topics like control structures, variables, etc. However, there is some stuff towards the end that will be of great value. I plan on reading the…

An Open Letter to My Daughter

Hey Little One (as Grandma Casabona so lovingly calls you), I can’t believe you’re due in a week. To say this time went quickly is a bit of an understatement. In some ways it doesn’t quite feel real yet. But when I start to have that thought, I look at your mother, and I see you…

    What are You Passionate About?

I’ve written about passion on occasion and have a general idea of what I’m passionate about, but the question struck me differently this time. I think it’s because the question wasn’t asked of me outright. It was…

  1. I think the problem stems from the fact that the scoreless school is a tiny school for girls with learning disabilities. That and it seems the winning team was doing a full-court press in the fourth period, while already ahead 80+ points.

If a NBA team beat another NBA team 100-0, that’s sad for the loser, but not really controversial. There’s no place for a 100-0 win in high school sports. It’s not just about winning; it’s also about learning good sportsmanship.
