    The NEPA Hackathon is Back for 2015

    Mark your Calendars! I’m happy to announce The NEPA Hackathon is back for 2015 and it will be better than last year. We are still in the early planning stages, but we have a new location, more folks involved, and maybe even a few prizes! Keep at eye out here or on the Twitter account, @nepahackathon for more information.

    Using Hackathons to Learn

    On Wednesday, June 18th, I will begin hosting weekly coding sessions (or short hackathons) in Downtown Scranton. You can read more about them here. There have been a lot questions on what to expect, what people should be doing, and how the sessions will be structured. It’s important to remember that these sessions will really be a way for programmers, designers, and other folks to get together and work on things they want to work on. However, that doesn’t mean that attendees can’t take the time to learn.

    What is a Hackathon?

    According to Wikipedia, a hackathon is defined as:

    …an event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development, including graphic designers, interface designers and project managers, collaborate intensively on software projects.

    Basically, it’s a place were people who work with computers can come together to hopefully make something awesome. There are all types of hackathons, from  ones that last a few hours, to 24 hour long, to ones that even last several days.

    Speaking: NEPABlogCon and Beyond!

    Though I haven’t officially announced it yet, I have been talking for a while about a new book I’m working on called Responsive Design with WordPress. We are a couple of months out from release but things are going well! In the time running up to the release I’ll be out there speaking quite a bit to promote it.
