  • The Great Freelancing Advice I Never Took

Because I started freelancing at age 15, I would often struggle with what I would do after I graduated from college. I could start my own business and freelance full time, or I could get a “real” job. At one point, while I was in the throws of this existential crisis, my dad and I went to dinner with a family friend who happened to be starting his own business. This friend, who was close to my dad’s age with two kids of his own, offered me some advice. I, being the headstrong early 20-something male, promptly disregarded it. It wasn’t until I was towards the end of my 20s that I realized it was some of the best freelancing advice I never took.

  • I’m Working at Crowd Favorite

…or, “I really can’t wait to work for Chris Lema.”*

Today, I’m very excited to announce that starting in September, I will be a Front End Developer at Crowd Favorite.  I have been following the company since Alex King started it, love the work they do, and could not be happier to join a team that’s working on such great projects (I’ve actually been a big fan of Alex personally for a long time). I just recently accepted the job, but I can actually owe this to winning tickets to last year’s Pressnomics conference.

  • New Job

Tomorrow I start my new job as a XHTML/PHP Developer for a local company. While I don’t want to give any details about what/where/who it is (in fear of getting Dooced), I will say I am very excited/apprehensive. The summer before my senior year of college I am starting a job that has the potential to set me off on the rest of my life (life after school, that is). Well, that and the fact that for some reason I get very nervous driving to unknown places for the first time, and they are moving to a place that in my head is a terrible place to drive (not NYC). That will subside in time. I am more concerned with “Will I be good enough?” But I suppose they would have not hired me if I weren’t.

I will less than likely write about work for the aforementioned concerns, but I will say what I can when I can. As for now, wish me luck on my first day as a psudo-real person! Later.
