  • Serve Your Customers to Help Yourself

    I’m a big fan of automations. Generally, they are “set it and forget,” and I don’t have to worry about them working. When they break, I spend a fraction of the time troubleshooting that I would performing the task manually. A great, easy automation for anyone is post new content to Twitter. And while there are a TON of WordPress plugins for this, I thought the simplest solution would be an IFTTT1 integration. But when something didn’t work, they decided they’d rather use the opportunity to advertise themselves instead of serve the customer.

  • Asking, How Did You Build That?

    If you visit Florence, Italy, visiting the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore, more commonly known as the Florence Cathedral or  Il Duomo, is a must. From its completion in 1436 until the advent of modern-era architecture, it was the biggest dome in the world. Even better, it’s completely self supported. All without the help of modern technology. How?

  • Whew. It’s been a little too long since I’ve done one of these. With the semester starting things have gotten super busy for me!

    This morning I was able to help a fellow Coalworker with an issue regarding WordPress that was solved by using pre_get_posts (tutorial coming soon). This is significant for me because a year ago, I had no idea what that was.

    September 15th was my 1st anniversary at Crowd Favorite and this job is definitely the reason I knew the solution so quickly. I’ve learned so much in the past year. Longer post on that to follow.

  • 40 Days of Help

    I went to Catholic school my entire life, from Pre-K all the way up to when I got my Master’s Degree. While I haven’t always been the best at practicing my religion, something I have always done was adhere to the activities surrounding Lent: no meat on Fridays, and to ‘give something up’. The real reasoning behind giving something up is to have you do something that will ultimately make you a better person, hopefully in some long-lasting fashion. That’s why this year I wanted to do something different, and why I created a new website: 40 Days of Help.
