    My Online Development Resources

    March 11, 2010

Recently, I made it practice to keep my most important web development resources in my bookmarks bar in Google Chrome (which is awesome, because I also use Bookmark Sync). These aren’t my development tools of course (Coda on Mac, Notepad++ and Filezilla on PC, Photoshop on both), these are online resources I use on a regular basis. Click on to see them!

What Developers can learn from Home Improvement

    August 21, 2009

    tooltime

It’s no secret that I love the show Home Improvement, especially if you know me personally or follow me on Twitter. As a freelancer I have the luxury of watching it everyday in the middle of the afternoon, and I got to thinking- there is a lot programmers and web developers can learn from Tim Taylor and his antics.

    Info Overload- The New Design

    August 5, 2009

    Info Overload Screen

I hadn’t realized it, but next month will be 2 and a half years since my last redesign, which is considerably longer than my previous time between designs; I was young and impressionable and didn’t know what I wanted. But now something is different. My needs in 2007 were different than my needs now. Then, this was just a place for blog entries (and the occasional trying out a new web dev trick). Now information sharing has increased 10 fold. I have shared thoughts and links on Facebook, Google Reader, Twitter, and here. The new design needs to reflect that, especially since my day-to-day blogging has decreased with the advent of Twitter. I present to you: Info Overload. If you’re in a feed reader, click on through.

    Standard WordPress Plugins

    January 12, 2009
    wplogo

Over the last few weeks I’ve been working a lot with WordPress. Between a new job I started, Freelancing the Net, and converting Manifest Development over to WordPress (more on that later), I’ve set up or worked on between 6-10 blogs in the last 2 weeks. Over that time I’ve compiled a list of WordPress plugins I’ve used for all of them:

    • All-in-One SEO Pack: Some helpful things to make your blog a little more search engine friendly
    • CformsII: Add robust form creation and processing to your blog.
    • Google Sitemap Generator: Another SEO oriented one
    • Twitter Tools: Adds new posts to Twitter, ability to create Tweet “digests” on your blog
    • iBox or Lightbox: It’s all about useability here.
    • Yet Another Related Posts Plugin: Shows users reading your post what other similar content you’ve got on your blog.

I will also be working on two plugins of my own this week. Maybe if I deem them good enough, I’ll release them here.
