New Blog on How to be Distraction Free: Uninterrupt.Me

Over the weekend I happened to be awake and in front of a computer when I came across this tweet from @jenseninman, where she mentioned that she had 2+ hours of uninterrupted time to work on the amazing @CenterCentre project. This got me thinking that it’s been a while since I had some solid time to myself, uninterrupted and distraction free. I also thought that a dedicated blog for how to becoming distraction free seemed like a good idea. When I looked, the (amazing) domain uninterrupt.me was available. What was I supposed to do?

So I bought the domain and started brainstorming. How do we stop interruptions? What can this site do to help people? I settled on a few different types of content:

  • Articles that would cover tips, tricks, and horror stories from people constantly being interrupted.
  • Links to other websites or apps to help you become distraction free
  • Inspirational Quotes from articles, books, and other writings

Here’s the elevator pitch for the site:

The site is dedicated to people sharing their tips for finding time uninterrupted. I’m hoping people will be willing to share tips and tricks to getting things done, and maybe even tell some horror stories about times where the interruptions seemed endless. If you have a story or trick to share, email me: please [at] uninterrupt [dot] me.

The site is seeded with some content now, but I really want to hear from you! Use the contact form on this site or send an email to please [at] uninterrupt [dot] me with your tips, tricks, and horror stories. And don’t worry, I’ll make sure your stories are anonymous unless it’s specifically stated that you don’t want it to be.

As a small sidebar, I also launched a new page on 1085 where you can buy personalized, signed copies of Responsive Design with WordPress. To bring it back around, I guess I was focused (and distraction free) enough to launch two pretty cool things this weekend 🙂

    I was recently on the The Recognized Authority podcast with Alastair McDermott talking about the realities of starting a successful podcast and how to demonstrate your expertise to your audience. We had a great conversation around why to start a podcast, audio quality, and prep. But I think the big takeaway is this:

    Your goal in establishing authority is to get people to know, like, and trust you. And podcasting is a pretty intimate medium. Most people are listening with headphones, maybe they’re doing something else, but they’re mostly listening to you. And so it’s an easy way to establish that trust.
