3 Steps to Start Automating with Zapier

“I know I need to automate… but where do I start?”

Sound familiar?

This is one of the most common questions I hear.

And I get it. It’s like walking into a giant grocery store and being told: “Make me something to eat.”

No recipe. No direction. Just endless possibilities — and paralysis.

So here’s what to do instead.

Step 1: Write down everything you do for a particular task or project.

This is your documentation phase — you're building a recipe. Without it, you don’t know what’s possible.

Step 2: List all the tools you use to perform that task or project.

Think of this as understanding the equipment available to you.

Step 3: Go to zapier.com/apps – http://zapier.com/apps

There, you can search the apps you already use and see what triggers and actions are available.

It’s where the possibilities finally get real:

“When a new item is added in Notion, I want X to happen…”

Now you know what's actually possible based on what you already do and use.

Document. List. Explore.

That’s how you go from idea paralysis to actual automations that save you time.
