3 Things I’m Grateful for (August 20, 2021)

3 things I’m grateful for, this third week of August, 2021:

Flexibility in my schedule: We’re without child care for the last few weeks of summer, and while this means for most we’d either have to start daycare early, burden other family members, or hire someone pretty sort-term, because my wife and I have fairly flexible schedules, we can make it work temporarily.

Cool Products and Services: This week, I got back a couple of pens I sent out to Custom Nib Studio for interesting nib grinds. I’m stoked to start using them in earnest and love that there are such services1. Similarly, one of my favorite online shops, Ugmonk is having a warehouse sale this weekend. And they happen to be located in my town.

Travel: Next week I’m taking my first plane ride in 21 months. It’s the longest I’ve gone without flying in my adult life. And while I’m apprehensive, I’m vaccinated and excited to start getting back to a relative normal life again.

That’s it for this week! What are you grateful for? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I highly recommend Gena if you have fountain pen nibs that need a little TLC. ?

Recap: Year Two of Self Employment

As I sit here writing this, I can’t believe I’ve completed 2 full years of self employment. I think another shocking revelation is I’m actually doing pretty well. This has been a strong growth year for me, and I’ve got a lot more clarity in what I’m doing, and what I need to do.

  • Trying the WordPress App

I’ve always been hesitant to use the WordPress app because I didn’t like how tethered it was to Jetpack. But now that I’m on Pressable, the experience has been pretty swell. This is also a move to look for more ephemeral ways to share my thoughts since leaving Twitter. I suspect a combination of this…

Is it, ‘$30 good’? We live in an interesting world where apps, likely because there is not physical product just a download, are expected to be cheap or free. Video games are still $60 a shot, but an app that will make you more productive is $30 and it gets questioned. I asked that very…

So much for writing a lot this week! I’m hoping Sunday will provide me ample opportunity for reading, writing, and R&R. I’ve been kicking around lots of ideas for my seemingly defunct TIL Podcast. Now that I have a nice new mic (Blue Yeti – thank you Prime Day) I’ve gotten a second (third?) wind for…

  • Leaving Facebook

A few weeks ago, I posted on LinkedIn that I’m systematically deleting my social accounts. Today, Facebook was up. It’s not fully deleted yet — I added a bunch of new friends from a conference last week. But it’s on the way. I’ll be posting more here, and writing more at Streamlined Solopreneur. More on…

When I woke up this morning I though, “I’m going to get a bunch of stuff done before work.” It’ll be a productive day! Then I spent 20 minutes wrestling with Chrome. My account needed to be re-verified. Fine. 2-factor auth. Great. “Your sync passphrase is different from your Google password. It was set 2.5…
