• Trying Out My New Canon Rebel T6i

This week I got a new Canon Rebel T6i. I’ve been in the Nikon camp for a long time and I’ve enjoyed the cameras I’ve used, but I’m at a point where I’d like to get more mileage out of my DSLR, not only as a camera, but as a webcam for when I do live streams/video calls. It’s much much easier (read: possible) to do that on the T6i, and not possible on the D3300, which is what I have. This weekend I got to take the camera out for a spin when the family went to Longwood Garden. Here’s some of my better shots (Flickr album here)

  • My 2016 Learning Plan: Timeboxing, Better Photos, and Tech

Every so often I decide it’s high time I start learning some new skills. My first “learning binge” was a pretty successful one, as I accomplished everything I hoped I would. My second one took a little longer than I hoped, but in the end I still hit a couple of good goals. There are a few kinks I need to work out of both projects but they are more or less in the wild. This time around, there’s a list of things I want to learn and project I want to work on and release. Much like last time I will use those projects to learn new things, but there’s a new challenge: time management.

    Canon S3 IS

    Canon S3 IS

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about “the 2 year swing” and my intentions to buy a new digital camera. Since then I purchased the Canon Powershot S3 IS and could not be happier. I liked my Nikon Coolpix 4100 for what it was worth, but the Canon is just so much more powerful, with a multitude of shooting modes and options.

At about 3x3x4.5 and .91 pounds, it is significantly bigger (albeit slightly lighter) that my 1.5×3.5×2.6 and 1 pound Nikon, but as I mentioned in the previous post, size was not a major factor in the decision. Zoom was the prominent factor, and with 12x Optical Zoom, I went with the right choice. There is also the option of getting newer, more powerful lenses for it, which is absolutely great. Plus, with 6 mega pixel photos, they come out not only close, but clear and crisp. Another great feature about the camera is the amount of shooting modes it has- 12 to switch from, with an number of options to play with on each one. For sports composite, which I used a lot on my Nikon, all I have to do is hold down the button to take as many shots as I want. My favorite shooting mode, however, is the Manual mode.

Last semester I took a photo class where we learn about how to control the shutter speed, the amount of light that entered the camera, how to utilize the focus and a few other factors essential for good photos. With the Nikon I was not able to put this knowledge into practice. With the Canon not only can I do all of the above, switch between manual presets and control the flash, a simple option that was left out in the making of the Nikon.

While there is so much more to talk about with my new camera (like the movable, “tumble” screen), I just wanted to touch on my favorite features. If you want to take great, professional looking pictures- this camera might be the best in its price range (~ $400). If you would like to see some pictures I have taken, you can go to my Flickr site and take a look at my Washington DC and [most recent] Yankee Game pictures. Later!

    New Digital Camera.

I got it today, and therefore i hope to have more pics on this site. I like it so far, and i got that and a photo printer for $100. Its like a $275 value. So i more or less rapped Comp USA. Just bc the printer was the last one, and i think it was the display one. But the camera- Unopened. You can find out more on the happenings page. You know…Pic, Specs, Links.

Also, I have been told that I should use my blog to back a Presidential Candidate. After Much deliberation, I am going to vote Kerry, and therefore, will use this blog to back him. I know many of my friends are prob upset, and I have this to say. Bush is hated by a pretty good percentage of the world. Kerry wants to try to fix the war in Iraq and well, Bush is fucking up. Its easy for Kerry to say that about Bush now, But some decisions Bush has made you just have to question. Such as, why turn the UN away from helping with the Reconstruction in Iraq. Kerry may not be a good candidate, but he is the better one. On the happenings page there will be some Election links to keep you informed. Later!
