5 Recent Purchases I’ve Been Really Happy With (May 2021)

I thought I’d start a new type of post on this blog for stuff I’ve been digging. I’m not the first to think of this concept, surely. But I feel like lately all of stuff I’ve been purchasing, I’ve been really pleased with. So every so often I’ll run a list like this. Here’s 5 purchases I’ve been really happy with for May 2021.

1. The Maker’s Bag from Tom Bihn

Look. I love bags. I haven’t gone anywhere (except my parents’) in 14 months and I’ve purchased 3 new bags. I love bags.

One purchase is The Maker’s Bag from Tom Bihn and I had a real purpose for this: for when I want to work outside my office. I know that sounds absurd. Surely one of the 3 other messenger bags I own could do the job. And you’re right. But this one is compact. It’s small and fits just what I need. It’s lightweight, and it’s got lots of pockets. The messenger bag I use for conferences right now is too big to lug around the house, or out to my shed, where I’ll sometimes work. I love it.

2. Craft App

I’m always on the hunt for good apps – particularly one that can replace with Evernote, which I’m not a huge fan of. The reason I stay there is because of the solid Zapier integration.

However, lots of buzz started around an app called Craft so I decided to give it a go. It is now my go-to app for planning, writing, and organizing. I purchased the pro version almost immediately.

3. Analog by Ugmonk

I love ways to plan and organize, and Analog is a great tool for that. Each morning, I write down what I hope to accomplish on a card labeled, “Today,” and I have a list of tasks starring me in the face.

It’s a great way for me to focus and actually write out what I need to do. Plus, there’s a great deal of satisfaction in filling in the bubbles once you complete a task.

4. Quartet Cork Board Bulletin Board (x2)

Speaking of actually writing stuff out, another analog tool I picked up is 2 small cork boards. Once is for my content pipeline. I have a bunch of small cards and pull one off and I’m ready to make that content.

The other is a “Story board” – a way to help me plan out longer videos and courses. These are great because they help me visualize my content plan without having to stare at a screen.

5. Mack Weldon Ace Sweatpant

Look. I have lots of sweatpants I’ve spent $10-15 on. “Why do I need to spend more than that?” I’d ask myself. Then I decided to treat myself (plus I got a 20% discount), and get the Mack Weldon Ace Sweatpant.

Let me tell you: This are the most comfortable garment I’ve ever placed upon my legs. They fit perfectly, they aren’t too long, they’ve got multiple pockets. Now I know why I’d spend more than $15 on sweatpants.
