Seat Covers and Other Small Details

Did you know it’s said that Walt Disney can be attributed with the creation of the “Push” trash cans? When he was creating Disneyland, he didn’t want people to see trash coming out of the top of the receptacles, so he challenged companies to make trash cans that hid the trash. He would use whoever did the best. That’s because Walt was very much about small details. Hearing stories like that have made me think about how small details can go a long way, even if no one ever notices them. That brings me to seat covers.

See, many people won’t think twice about the trash cans and how they look (or how they are no more than 30 steps apart). If you had asked me before I started planning for wedding what I thought of seat covers (the slips that go over chairs at a wedding reception), I would have said that’s a silly thing to spend money on. After going to a few of weddings, after looking at our own venues, and after hearing those stories about Walt, I felt we should have seat covers. It’s slightly more expensive, but it’s a small detail that will go a long way.

See with seat covers, the chairs will blend in with the rest of the decor and most will probably not even notice them. However, if they aren’t there, people will definitely notice something is wrong. Even if they don’t realize the chairs are what’s out of place, something won’t feel right about the room.

It’s these small details that will take a wedding from good to great. Yes, people will have fun as long as there’s good music and an open bar; however, it will truly be a great experience if you nail down the small details. Most people who visit Disneyland don’t comment on how clean the park is. They go about their day, having fun, just as Walt intended.
