My Favorite Android Apps

When I got my Droid, one of the first things I did was tap into Android’s vast app market  to check out apps and widgets (modules you can throw on one of your home screens for instant access to some app or information). I’ve had the device about a month now and there are a few apps that have proved themselves useful and/or awesome. Here is a list of my favorites.

  • Home++: Home++ is a pretty slick app that makes a lot of improvements on the default home screen. It adds a bar of icons along the bottom for quick access to phone, contacts, search, browser, apps, notifications, favorites, settings, and a sound setting switcher (which adds vibrate- something not native to Android). It also hides the apps tab and notifications bar (if you want), and adds a 4th home screen.
  • Remember the Milk: I had a pro account at one point but didn’t renew it because I never used it. The Android app, which includes a slick interface and a nice widget, made paying for and using RTM worthwhile again, even over Google Tasks which doesn’t have an official Android App and isn’t nearly as robust as RTM.
  • CalWidget: One thing I missed on my Storm (which has apparently changed since I switched) was in the ability to have my calendar appointments on the home screen. The first widget I looked for was a calendar one and CalWidget is great. Several different sizes, and a few settings to choose from including some nice appearance ones.
  • AK Notepad: This is your standard, run of the mill notepad app. Easy to use, lightweight, and customizable.
  • Places Directory: Find all kinds of places based on your location. Excellent and very useful!
  • TwitDroid: Best Twitter app of the ones I tried- I just wish I didn’t have to pay extra for a widget.

I also use the Weather widget, Google Goggles, Layar, NewsRob (for Google Reader), and the SportsTap widget for quick scores and highlights. What are you favorite apps? Did I miss any bigs ones? Leave em in the comments.
