2006 in Review

Note: This article was published while I was in my early 20s. I was much younger and dumber. Please don't hold it against me. One of the perils of having a 20+ year old website!

This post I have been thinking about for a couple of days now, and I am not sure what to say. 2006 was a pretty good year for me. JLC Web Design had a benchmark year, doing pretty well client wise. I’ve picked up a few new skills, like programming in AJAX and C. I’ve taken more pictures and got a litany of new toys, including a new laptop, camera, mp3 player, and of course, my Treo 650.

I also started a couple of series on this site that I hope to continue. The first one is The Business, where I give some insight on running my business, JLC Web Design. I also started a series on productivity and staying organized.

Coming in 2007: a new design to the blog, and hopefully a whole new project. All in all, it was a pretty good year. I’ve learned a lot, and hope ’07 is just as good! Later!

Stop Focusing on WordPress Searches and Serve Your Customers

Over the last few months, we’ve seen several outlets report on the seemingly alarming decrease in search terms year-over-year in the WordPress space. But does it matter that the specific search terms are decreasing (sometimes marginally) even as WordPress and WooCommerce usage reach new heights. While well-meaning, I don’t think these reports solve the problem they think they’re solving.

  • Some Accountability for 2013

Every year I make New Year’s Resolutions and while last year I did pretty well, accomplishing all but one, this year I wanted to try harder goals and make myself more accountable by telling people. I made a website listing my 13 goals for 2013; there are 7 main goals and 6 “things I should…

What to do When Your Credit Card Info is Stolen

Recently I woke up to an alarming email, possibly from my credit card company, saying there were several unauthorized attempts to use my credit card on various websites. As a general rule I don’t click on links from emails when I’m not 100% sure about them (and maybe I was a little in denial) so…

    WordCamp Scranton Followup

It’s been a little over a week since WordCamp Scranton, the dust as settled, and I have slept. First, I want to thank everyone who came out: attendees, speakers, sponsors, and volunteers. I also want to thank Johnson College for being such a great host. Finally, big thanks to Matt Mullenweg for taking time out…
