Movies

  • The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

4.9/5- Overall, a great adaptation from the book. They added something that I can only assume came from the second or third book to take up some time- but it did really travel to far from the story line- and kept all of my favorite parts of the book, as well as added a nice little musical number. My few complaints were that Zaphod wasn’t really looking like I had pictured (but thats just a me thing), and there was one part of the book where they didn’t really go into depth about including his 2 head that I think was a pretty significant part- especially if they are going to make the other parts of the series into a movie as well. The also did too much a love story with Arthur and Trish, but that can only be expected. Over all, a great movie that I highly recommend- I just recommend you read the book either before or after. Later!

  • Sin City- 4.9/5

Wow- what a great film. I heard rave reviews about it and felt the need to go see it. So last night, I did- and from the opening scene I was blown away. First of all- there was an all star cast- Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, Elijah Wood, Clive Owen (King Aurther), Benicio del Toro, Brittany Murphy, and Alexis Bledel(of Gilmore Girls fame) to name a few. Ill put it out there right now- besides the all star cast, some of the acting was ehh. Just some. But the cinematography was amazing. The colorings were the same as in the comic. The movie was incredibly similar to the comic- and I think that is because Frank Miller, who wrote it, also co-directed the movie. It was comic book movie/ old 1950’s detective work. Voice overs, the music, the fact that the movie was for the most part in black and white. The movie is immursive- you really feel like you are there. The story line- there is this City- Basin City- where there is also A LOT of violence. The movie focuses on 3 different stories at 3 different times. The first and last one follow the same character and the same story line, and happened first. The other 2 are up for grabs as to when they happened- around the same time presumably. But- Basin City- Crime runs this city- but you’ve got your heroes too. And then there are the ones who will do bad things for a good cause. This is where one character- Marv – comes in. He may have been the show stealer for me. You can tell, without a back story, that the man has been through a lot. The last thing he wants to do is avenge the death of someone who showed him kindness. And he goes through hell. Hartigan- played by Wilis- is our hero. A good cop facing retirement. This man also goes through hell trying to protect someone- an innocent girl- Nancy Callahan- age 9. The 3rd character is Dwight- played by Owen. At the end, the stories don’t really tie together, but become linked by a character or 2. The movie- like I said- is really well done. i suggest you go see it. Later.

  • Hostage

4/5- A good action film. I thought the movie was good- Willis, obviously a great job. He is a Hostage Negotiator. In the beginning of the movie, there is a suspensful scene. Good start. But the main story comes after. These 3 guys go to steal some very very rich guy’s car. This rich guy is a single father of 2 kids- a say…17 year old daughter named Jennifer and a say….7-10 year old boy named Tommy. The 3 guys enter the house with guns, Tommy pulls the silent alarm. Right here, I knew this kid would be great. Anyway, as the story transpires, Willis (who is now head of a small town Police Dept) gets the call and sees whats up. Anyway, Its a very involved storyline and this is a review, not a summary. The boy, Tommy- played by Jimmy Bennett was a great character. And Jimmy did a great job of portraying that. He was a brave little kid that wasn’t so couragous that it was unbelievable but he wasn’t a total wuss. He was a very smart kid who was able to think on his toes in a hot situation, and did what he had to do. The connection between him a Willis was a great one that was set from the opening scene, even though Tommy wasn’t in the opening scene. My only problem is there was no real closure I think. Sure, there was an ending- but I had some questions that could have been answered.
The action scenes- sick. There was fire, gunshots, a couple explosions, and a dramatic “walking sillouette” scene. But seriously, one scene towards the end takes the cake- all the plot lines come together in one massive action scene that still kept to the story and didnt end the movie. I liked it. You should go see it. Later.

ps- its hard to write a good review without giving away the story

  • DONT PANIC

Ok, So I have been a little lax with the posts as of late. I promise, that I will, umm, post. Ive been working on a few projects, but alas, that is not why I come to you this evening. I want to show you This. A trailer for The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, which I am currently reading. If you have read it, you should be as or more excited than I am. • Sideways

8.5/10- Sideways is the story of two middle-aged men named Miles and Jack, who go on a week long trip before Jake gets married that Saturday. Miles is a Middle School English Teacher/Writer and wine conosure who got divorced 2 years prior. He is waiting to hear if his first book is being published. He is the type that keeps to himself mostly, suffers from depression (i think anyway) and is shy. Jack, on the other hand, is the wild, party type who is always looking to have a good time. The movie revolves around their trip, and the soul searching they go through. The acting from both Paul Giamatti (Miles) and Thomas Haden Church (Jack) was great. Each character started in one place, and by the end of the movie, became a new man in a sense, and Giamatti and Church made that transformation apparant. This movie depicted a real friendship between two guys, no matter what the age. Even at 19, i felt like i could relate to some of the arguments they were having as well as the fun. It made the movie something real that you could see happening to you.
As for the comedy- i would say its definentily not the funniest movie I’ve seen, but it has it moments, or blocks. There were the wise ass sexual innuendoes from Jack from time to time, as well as some just flat out funny scenes that meshed well with the movie. My only complaint is that the movie has some fairly boring parts and seemed to run a little long, even though i was just over 2 hours. I still highly recommend you see it, as it isnt your average movie. Later

  • National Treasure….4.5

A damn good movie. Nicholas Cage was a great actor, as usual. The storyline is like so: A man Named Ben Gates (Cage) is a big history buff because of the history in his family. His family holds the key to finding a treasure hidden by the Masons, a secret society, in the late 1700s, around the time of t he revolution. The map is drawn on the back of the declaration of independence. So now they (gatesa and party) are racing against the FBI and the part of his group that broke away from him to find this treasure in time.
Now they dont say it, but im certain the treasure was suppose to be the Holy Grail. It was protected by the Knights Templar, whom i read about in the DaVinci Code. I really found the movie very interesting and it had alot of similarities to the DaVinci Code without the strong religious overtones. The reason I have it a 4.5 and not a 5 is because of some lame parts, and its one of those movies that you only have to watch once. Maybe twice for good measure. All in all, great movie. Later!

  • A Sad Day….

Rodney Dangerfield died yesterday, at the age of 82. Read about it here
Rodney was a funny guy. I always liked his jokes on marrage and his wife. “My wife likes to talk durring sex. I call her from the hotel.” So…RIP Rodney Dangerfield, 1921 – 2004

  • Napolian Dynomite….5

Fucking Funny. But this isnt your typical movie. You see, Where most movies have plots, this one didnt. There were events. But nothing really happened. I think that because of this, there was nothing to take away from the funny. Where in most movies, you might be wondering, or predicting what happens next, and therefore taking your full attention away from what is happening at the very moment, you really didnt need to guess what was going to happen in the movie, because nothing was happening. It was just like, a bunch of funny stuff strewn together. As Mike said, “It was a porn, but instead of sex, there was funny stuff.” And its true. There was no real character development. But it was the funniest movie i have seen in a long time. After the movie, you dont really know what to make of it. So you just laugh. So thats what I have to say about that.

Now- I will go into this in full later, but here is a screen shot of my desktop. Click to enlarge.

Notice the cool stuff. Its an Alienware skin for Windows Explorer. Look back for more info later.
    …Later.

  • Without a Paddle…5

Real funny. Which is all you need in a comedy. Its about 3 friends who go on the adventure their recenly decesed friend never made. The 3 guys are the typical movie personas: The Wild Boy- Tom. The Average, but not Guy: Jerry, and the Afraid of Everything Guy: Dan. The road is filled with your normal stuff: 2 hill billie weed farmers, a bear, super hot chicks who are one with the forest, and an old guy. Plus, Seth Green does a very good C3P – 0. Defiantly see this movie. You’ll laugh your ass off.
