How I Quickly Break Up my Podcast Audit Videos

I have a confession to make, friend.

I’m a little under water right now. Between sick, travel, vacation, and other summer things, I haven’t be able to write as much as I’d like for this newsletter. I plan on doing much more (including giving you those shortcuts I promised last week).

Whenever I get under water, I know something needs to be fixed.

So for this week’s member’s newsletter, I’d like to share two things:

  1. What’s been going on in the business, automation and delegation-wise
  2. A process I have for quickly chopping up videos and sharing them on Twitter and YouTube.

The Business, Delegation-Wise

Every time I’m underwater, it’s like a big read flashing light telling me I need to make an adjustment in my business.

When I hired my VA, it was because the pandemic started and I wasn’t able to work as much.

When I pivoted away from development, it was because I was trying to run 2 solo businesses: my podcast consulting business, and my web development business.

And now I’m underwater again because I’m focusing on creating long form content, which is important, but I’m not doing anything for client, podcast, and sponsor outreach. Those those things keep the lights on.

So I’ve decided to hire BOSS Assistants to help me with the outreach stuff. I’m excited to get started here; I trust Jordan and her team and I think it’s going to be good for me, and the business.

Chopping up those videos

OK – only to the fun tech stuff. Over on Twitter and YouTube, I’ve been posting breakdowns of my podcast audits. Here’s one that is to date, my most popular social media post ever.

The way I do the audits is fairly straightforward. I run through a standard document of things I check, filling it out and adding advice.

Then I record my thoughts in a 15 minute Loom video, going over what I’ve discovered, showing what I’ve found, etc.

Recording in Loom is great because the video is easily sharable, but it’s also the biggest hiccup in my process because there’s no local copy of the video.

I will likely start using eCamm Live instead for that reason.

When I’m ready to do the social media breakdown (after the customer has seen the feedback and OKs me sharing it), I’ll important the video into Descript.

Because the breakdowns are very structured, it’s easy for me to find the major themes and sections in a transcript. So I end up highlighting the text from the transcript.

Once you do that in Descript, you can click the “Publish” then select Export, then choose to export the Current Selection only:

From there, it’s a matter of uploading them to the native platforms (in my case, Twitter for the thread, and YouTube, in a playlist for the audit).

There are lots of potential utilities for this, of-course.

When your record something long form, with a little pre-planning, you can make it very easy to create short form clips.

You can even change the orientation of the video to be portrait for sharing on TikTok and Instagram Reels.

What do you think? How will you use this process?

SavvyCal or Calendly. There are a lot of great features to like about SavvyCal, including how calendar overlays work, one-off links, reusable hours, and recurring time blocks based on calendar events. But I’m not quite ready to switch yet. Here’s why.

    Doing the Hard Things Matters

Do you want to know why I’m AI Hesitant™? Because people use it for things to cheat the hard work of actual accomplishment. This was much more ubiquitous in the early days (you know, all those 2 years ago), but it still happens. It reminds me of a few things: About a year after ChatGPT…

Over the past year or so, I’ve made a concerted effort to grow my mailing list. I’ve begun the process of moving my entire operation from Airtable to Notion, and while most of it has been smooth sailing, soon I’m starting what will likely be the most difficult move: my podcast production process. Booking podcast guests can be a mess without the right tools. Missing one step can mean a bad recording, forgotten instructions, and unprepared interviewers.
