Kerry and Statistics

KERRY: That’s terrific. But 53 percent of our children don’t graduate from high school. Kids don’t have after-school programs…

I try to keep this blog non-political, I really do. But when people say stuff like that, I need to say something. 53%??? Where is God’s name is he getting this number?? Suitably Flip proved here that 53% is an outrageous number. I looked up here that the annual dropout rate has drooped to 3.5% in 04-05. So unless Mr. Kerry is including all students in the US, even those not eligible to graduate, 53% is clearly wrong. Now, there is one more thing I’d like to say about John Kerry:

42 Senators voted against Alito’s nomination. That’s the highest number of votes against any Supreme Court nominee since Clarence Thomas in 1991.

I got this from his website. I took a look on Wikipedia and since Clarence Thomas, not including Alito, 3 Justices have been put on the Supreme Court, one being Judge Roberts, appointed by President Bush. So while this statistic may be right, it is creating a false vision that there have been many judges since Thomas in 1991, where in actuality, there have only been 4, upto and including Alito. Later!
