I recommend SiteGround Hosting, but Who is it for?

Choosing the right hosting company can be an insurmountable task full of features, recommendations, and affiliate links*. There are a wide range of them, depending on what you need and what you know. A few months ago, for example, I switched this site to Liquid Web. Why don’t I just recommend them to everyone? Well the short answer is not everyone needs Liquid Web. I know it and they know it too. There’s no “one size fits all” hosting company; that’s why I recommend two. And today, I’m going to tell you why I recommend SiteGround.

Why SiteGround?

Let’s get right to it: Why do I recommend SiteGround? In-short, because they are the best general hosting company. Their price is in that sweet spot between suspiciously cheap and too rich for my blood. They also offer a good number of features I look for:

  • cPanel for more control over sites and ease of use
  • Let’s Encrypt for free SSL protection
  • 1-click install of WordPress (through cPanel)
  • The ability to manage Databases (through cPanel)
  • The ability to add more than 1 site in an account
  • Automatic updates for WordPress
  • Email

They also offer helpful support, backups, and a bunch of other valuable services that make SiteGround worth using. I’ve been with them for a while now and SiteGround has been nothing but reliable.

Who is SiteGround for?

OK OK – so SiteGround has a lot of nice features at a good price and they are reliable. You can say that about a ton of hosting companies. So who is SiteGround for?

The Small to Medium-sized Business Owner

If you have a small, informational site that you’d like to make sure stays up and up-to-date without a ton of maintenance SiteGround is for you. They have the major stuff on autopilot and great support to help you with anything else you need. They also offer free SSL and email, making them a 1-stop shop.

The Freelancer who Offers Hosting

If you’re a freelancer who likes to host your clients’ sites, SiteGround’s GoGeek plan is perfect, especially if most of your clients fall into the category above. They make it easy to manage multiple sites and offer enough features for you to get yours hands dirty if you need to. At since they also offer email, you don’t need to worry about getting that from another source if you don’t want to.

The Educator who wants Hosting for his/her Students

Starting at $60/year, SiteGround is great if you’re looking for affordable hosting for your students to teach them how to make basic websites or learn WordPress. It’s less than the price of most textbooks, and it will give them solid experience with a common real-world tool.
