lala for Music

Note: This article was published while I was in my early 20s. I was much younger and dumber. Please don't hold it against me. One of the perils of having a 20+ year old website!

lala_logoWow! It’s been a while and I apologize. I’ve been keeping busy with Cognition Media (which is finally getting off the ground), but am back on track here. Today starts the first in a series of posts I’ll be writing to help with tech oriented gifts for the 2009 holiday season. Up first is a service I’ve been using for a while now (7-8 months) and am very happy with: lala.

lala is a service that allows you to listen to music online, right in your browser. You sign up for free and get 50 free songs to listen to an unlimited amount of times online. After that, you can listen to any song once for free, pay 10 cents per song for unlimited online listens, or for $0.89-1.29 you  can download a DRM free mp3 onto your computer. If you pay the 10 cents for the web song first, that is subtracted from the price of the song. If you’re into physical CDs, you can even purchase them and get the web album for free.

Finally, one of my favorite things about lala is its desktop software, lala Mover. With Mover, you can upload your entire music library to lala; you can then listen to any song you want on lala, at any time.

I’ve used lala to find a TON of new music and listen to music I was interested in at least once before committing to a purchase of any sort. So how is it a gift idea? lala offers gift cards. Gift cards let users add money to their account to purchase web songs, mp3s, or physical CDs and are the perfect gift for music lovers! I strongly recommend lala for you and your family and friends.
