The Presidential Debates- Part 2

The second presidential debate was not as bad a show for bush as the first one, however, Kerry definatly won again. He looked good, and had a well thought out answer for all of his questions again. Any “flip flopping” he was accused of he gave reasons for, though bush seemed to ignore those answers. There was only one thing that worried me. But I have already ruled out the possibility of a draft. When asked if There would be a draft, Bush replied,

“We’re not going to have a draft, period. The all- volunteer army works. It works particularly when we pay our troops well. It works when we make sure they’ve got housing, like we have done in the last military budgets. An all-volunteer army is best suited to fight the new wars of the 21st century, which is to be specialized and to find these people as they hide around the world. We don’t need mass armies anymore. One of the things we’ve done is we’ve taken the — we’re beginning to transform our military.

In Kerry’s rebuttal he said,

I don’t support a draft. But let me tell you where the president’s policies have put us…”

He then when on to say he wants our military to feel safe, and that he wants to build allies, but to me at least, that wasnt as strong a “NO Draft” answer as Bushs. I still feel there wont be a draft because Congress wont pass it (unless they dont want to get reelected), and the bill hasnt been looked at in over a year. Bush also gave a good answer on Abortion (it was his rebuttal), But after Kerry’s response, Bush messed up. Kerry, in his response gave reasons why he voted against outlawing PB Abortion and Parental Consent. Im not saying I agree, but his answers were lagit. Then in his response, Bush said

“Well, it’s pretty simple when they say: Are you for a ban on partial birth abortion? Yes or no?
And he was given a chance to vote, and he voted no. And that’s just the way it is. That’s a vote. It came right up. It’s clear for everybody to see. And as I said: You can run but you can’t hide the reality.”

Bush, He gave you reasons why he voted no. He should have mentioned that PB Abortion is wrong, and then state why is it wrong. Not just restate that Kerry voted no. He said so. Bush also acted very childish when he “had to” respond to some of the things Kerry said. Very unprofessional. and Lastly, Bush totally avoided the last question, President Bush, during the last four years, you have made thousands of decisions that have affected millions of lives. Please give three instances in which you came to realize you had made a wrong decision, and what you did to correct it. Thank you. He went on a 2 min rant about how Iraq was the right decision. Guilty Concience? he then said he made some mistakes in appointing people, but he wasnt going to name them. Makes you wonder who he had in mind, if anyone at all.
Finally, he brought up the global test and Wrong war thing again. Let it go. Thats just another example of not really listening to what Kerry said.
